Hurricane officials are urging countries in the north-eastern Caribbean to prepare for tropical storm conditions today as Fiona, the latest storm of the season, is expected to pass over or close to the Leeward Islands.

The storm is said to be packing top winds of 45 miles per hour.

Tropical storm watches and warnings have been issued for several islands, most of which were buffeted by Hurricane Earl earlier in the week.

Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued for St Martin and St. Barts, while watches are in effect for Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, St Maarten, Saba and St Eustatius.

Meanwhile, Antigua and Barbuda has recorded its first death linked to the passage of Hurricane Earl on Monday.

A 34-year-old electricity linesman was electrocuted Tuesday evening while carrying out repairs to downed lines.
