Rooney out of United-Valencia match
Manchester United says Wayne Rooney will miss tomorrow's Champions League match against Valencia because of an ankle injury.
The England striker was substituted in the 61st minute of United's 2-2 draw at Bolton on Sunday and the Premier League club says he will not be part of the squad that flies to Spain today.
A statement on United's website yesterday said Rooney's ankle injury is not thought to be serious, but added that Ferguson has chosen not to play him against the Spanish leaders.
United, which drew goalless with Rangers in their opening Group C match, is already without injured wingers Ryan Giggs and Antonio Valencia.
Chelsea will look to bounce back from their first defeat of the Premier League season when they host Marseille in the second round of matches in the Champions League.
The English champions' 100 percent start to the campaign ended when they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City, following on from their surprise 4-3 home defeat to Newcastle in the League Cup.
Chelsea won their first game in Group F of the Champions League, 4-1 at Zilina two weeks ago, but play a Marseille side that has restored confidence with successive wins in the French league.
