Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls bounce back to winning ways
Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls bounced back to winning ways by defeating Samoa 70-46 in Group ‘A’ of the netball competition.
The Jamaicans have now won three matches from their four preliminary round games. Their only defeat came from world champions Australia yesterday.
Goal shooter Romelda Aikens led Jamaica with 50 goals from 54 attempts. Jhaniele Fowler supported with 13 from 15 and captain Simone Forbes had seven from nine.
In squash, Jamaican Bruce Burrowes suffered a 3-1 defeat to Nicholas Kyme of Bermuda in the men’s singles consolation plate final; while in the boxing competition, the Jamaican pair of Jovan Young and Andre Reid fail to progress.
Young lost to Keiran Harding of Wales 8-4 in the middleweight 75kilos division and Samota Paramjeet of India stopped Reid in Round 3 in their super heavyweight
