Ukraine train and bus collision

At least 40 people have been killed and 10 hurt in a collision between a train and a small bus in eastern Ukraine.

Officials say the incident happened near the town of Marhanets.

A spokeswoman for the regional traffic police says the driver of the bus drove through the red light before colliding with the train.

The officials say some of the injured are critical while the death toll could rise.

The ministry of the interior affairs says the train had dragged the bus for 30 metres after the collision.

Meanwhile, President Viktor Yanukovych has declared Wednesday a national day of mourning.

Ukraine has a bad safety record due to the poor condition of many roads and drivers who regularly flout the rules.
