International Non-government Organisations (NGO) are calling on the world\'s richest nations to cancel Haiti\'s debt.
They said it is not acceptable for Haiti to continue making payments of US$1 million per week to the World Bank and other institutions, while the people of the country suffer.
Coordinator of Haiti Advocacy Platform Ireland-UK, Anne McConnell, said Caribbean the NGOs have presented their case to G8 finance ministers, ahead of their meeting in Japan today.
Haiti is scheduled to hand over US$50 million this year on debt repayments.
Advocates argue that these funds would be better spent on food, health and other social services.
