Sammy's elevation a good move, says former PM

Former chairman of CARICOM’S Prime Ministerial Sub Committee on Cricket, Keith Mitchell has labelled Darren Sammy’s appointment as West Indies captain a positive move for regional cricket.
The former Grenada Prime Minister says he was excited by the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) move, noting that he believed Sammy would lead the regional side with pride and distinction.
Mitchell further says Sammy has the ability to adequately perform the task at hand.
The 26-year-old all-rounder was elevated to the post on Sunday, replacing Jamaican Chris Gayle who spent an unsuccessful three years in charge.
Sammy’s first assignment will be leading West Indies on the tour of Sri Lanka next month where they will play three Tests and five One-Day Internationals.
Mitchell says Sammy possessed a stubborn determination to succeed and a strong passion for the game of cricket, qualities which highlighted the halcyon era of West Indies cricket during the 1970s and 80s.
