World 100 and 200-metre record Holder Usain Bolt of Jamaica is not among the candidates for the world athlete of the year.

Bolt, who won the men's category for the previous two years, was omitted by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) when it named its 10 male and 10 female candidates for the award.

Bolt missed the latter part of the season because of tightness in his lower back, forcing him to skip several events and the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Veronica Campbell-Brown is the only Jamaican on the list.

The other women nominated are world heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis of Britain, Blanka Vlasic, Milcah Chemos Cheywa, Meseret Defar, Fabiana Murer, Nadezhda Ostapchuk, Olga Rypakova, Anita Wlodarczyk and Allyson Felix.

American sprinters Tyson Gay, David Rudisha, the Kenyan world-record holder in the 800 metres, and French sprinter Christophe Lemaitre are on the men’s list.

The track and field world governing body also nominated Steve Hooker, Bernard Lagat, Christian Cantwell, David Oliver, Zersenay Tadese, Teddy Tamgho and Andreas Thorkildsen.
