Storm batters Belize

Hurricane Richard has hit the coast of Belize just south of Belize City, the main centre of population.



Some 10,000 people are said to have taken refuge in shelters further inland.

However, the latest information indicates that no serious damage has been reported.



The hurricane has since been downgraded to a tropical storm as it heads towards northern Guatemala and south-eastern Mexico.
