Body found, but search continues for victims of fun boat

The body of seven-year-old Kwesi Miggins was discovered in the Demerara River yesterday less than 24 hours after a Diwali Fun Day boat ride turned into tragedy.



Rescue workers were still combing the river in search of Kishana Holligsworth, 20 and Melinda Duggan, 12, a student of Mc Kenzie High School.



Police said they have since detained the captain of the boat, who is reported to have earlier fled the scene of the incident.



Divisional Police Commander, David Ramnarine said the boat, which was assigned to the Linden Community Policing Group, had at least 10 persons on board when it capsized.



He said apart from the captain, none of the passengers on the boat were wearing life jackets.
