Gayle climbs into ICC top 10 rankings
Chris Gayle has rocketed into the top 10 of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Player Rankings for Test batsmen for the first time following his magnificent triple century against Sri Lanka in the just concluded first Test.
The West Indies opener's second career triple century lifted the 31-year-old from 21st position to 10th spot in the latest rankings, which were released today.
Gayle, who earned 95 ratings points for his triple century, is one of two West Indies batsmen in the top 10.
The other is experienced left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul who dropped two places to sixth position after scoring 32 in the first Test.
Sachin Tendulkar of India is still the Number One batsman in the world, followed by Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka.
In the ICC Player Rankings for Test bowlers, South Africa fast bowler Morne Morkel has achieved a career-best ranking. Morkel, who had match figures of 5 for 100 in the Dubai Test, has moved up two places to third position.
Morkel’s team-mate Dale Steyn sits pretty in the Number One position while Graeme Swann of England is in second spot.
No West Indies bowlers are in the top 10. Jamaican Jerome Taylor, at 15th place, is the highest placed West Indies bowler.
