Tivoli beat Sporting Central to move three points clear
Substitute Owen Powell scored three minutes from the end as Tivoli Gardens recorded a 2-1 away victory over Sporting Central Academy at Brancourt in Clarendon yesterday to open up a three-point lead atop the Digicel Premier League standings.
Kwame Richardon had given Tivoli Garden the lead after 13 minutes, but Francois Swaby equalised for eighth place Sporting central Academy six minutes later.
However, with the game heading toward a 1-1 draw, Powell won the contest for the End-of-first-round Champions in the 87th minute.
The Glendon ‘Admiral’ Bailey-coached team has now moved to 29 points, three ahead of second place Waterhouse, who had to settle for a goalless draw against newcomers Benfica at Drax Hall in St Ann.
Boys’ Town remain in third place after scoring a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Clarendon outfit Humble Lion at Collie Smith Drive.
Renay Lloyd 34th and Africk Samuels 81st minute scored for Boys’ Town, while Kevin Mighty was on target for Humble Lion in the 18th minute.
Humble Lion ended with 10-men following the ejection of Ajurdan Brown in the 67th minute.
Champions Harbour View secured a 2-0 home win over St Georges Sports Club to climb to fourth place on 20 points, while Portmore United remain in fifth place following a 1-1 draw with 10th place Village United at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.
In the day’s other game, Arnett Gardens hold Reno to a goalless draw at Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland.
