Guyana’s Ministry of Education is advising parents not to provide items such as toilet tissue, soap and typewriting paper for the schools their children attend if head teachers or members of staff ask them to do so.
In a recent release, the ministry also demanded that no head teacher or member of staff should charge contingency fees as a condition for school admission.
The release also states that no solicitation for monetary or material donations should be made from any parent, member of the community, and private or public agency.
The ministry said any donation of furniture, photocopiers or similar pieces of equipment should be entirely voluntary and recorded by the school.
Musical instruments may also be given with no conditions attached.
