UN climate change meeting set for Cancun, Mexico

The annual United Nations talks on climate change is now on in Cancun, Mexico.

Last year, the Copenhagen summit on climate change ended in acrimony and a non-binding accord.

Expectations this year are said to be much lower with delegates hoping to make progress on protecting forests and helping poor nations cope with the consequences of climate change.

Small island developing nations say there appears to be little in the negotiations for them.

Grenada’s UN ambassador, Dessima Williams, who chairs an alliance of island states at the conference says they will raise concerns about a mere trickle of short-term aid promised in Copenhagen.
