England dominate Australia in Adelaide Test

Australia captain Ricky Ponting was involved in an altercation with his England counterpart Andrew Strauss at stumps on the opening day of the second Ashes Test in Adelaide.

The row originated between wicketkeeper Brad Haddin and Strauss with Ponting quick to intervene and exchange words with the Middlesex opener.

The cause of the spat remains a mystery but speculation suggests it could have been over England's attempts to waste time towards the end of the day.

Ponting is facing one of the biggest challenges of his career with an Australian side, which is weaker than previous versions.

He lasted just one ball on today’s first day, edging a James Anderson delivery to Graeme Swann in the slips as his side made an awful start before reaching 245 all out.

England were one without loss at the close.
