Protests and sporadic gunfire have erupted in Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, after the election authorities revealed that the ruling party's candidate, Jude Celestin, and the former first lady, Mirlande Manigat, would go through to the presidential run-off.
The singer, Michel Martelly, finished a close third.
The United States embassy says the results are inconsistent with those published by election observers.
Voters will decide on January 16 which candidate will succeed President Rene Preval.
