Sportsman, Sportswoman of the Year Awards for January 21
The World’s fastest man Usain Bolt and West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle along with Veronica Campbell-Brown head the nominees for the 50th Annual National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards.
The Awards Ceremony, to be staged by the RJR Sports Foundation for a sixth consecutive year, will take place on January 21 at the Pegasus Hotel.
Bolt and Gayle head the 10-men nominated for the prestigous award. The other nominees are Nesta Carter, Lerone Clarke, Asafa Powell, Dorian Scott, Lansford Spence, Jermaine Gonzales from track and field, Errol Kerr, Ski Cross; and cricketer Brendan Nash.
Campbell-Brown, who ran the fastest 100 and 200-metre times for 2010, is the big favourite to win the Sportswoman of the Year Award.
The other women’s nominees are Sheree Francis, Trecia-Kaye Smith, Kaliese Spencer, Nickiesha Wilson from track and field; swimmer Alia Atkinson and cricketer Stafanie Taylor.
The selection committee has also nominated six persons for the People’s Choice Performance of the Year.
The nominees are Campbell-Brown, Carter, Gayle, Gonzales, national footballer Keammar Daley and female apprentice rider Georgina Sergeon for her handling of Go My Robin to beat Below The Waist, ridden by former champion jockey Wesley Henry at Caymanas Park on May 15.
Chairman of the Selection Committee Mike Fennell says it was very challenging to select the nominees.
