Arnett Gardens beat Portmore United 2:1 in Premier League
Former champions Portmore United squandered a glorious opportunity to move a step closer to the end-of-second round final of the Digicel Premier League after going down 2-1 to Arnett Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.
The St Catherine-base team, who had a five-point lead going into the contest with three matches to go, fail to hold on to a 1-0 lead and conceded two goals in 17 minutes.
Ricardo Cousins gave Portmore United a 24th minute lead, but captain Kirk Ramsay 57th minute and Ricardo Smith 74th minute handed the hosts victory.
As a result of the victory, Arnett Gardens have moved ahead within two points of Portmore United, who remain on 19 points in the second round table.
Sporting Central are also two points behind Portmore United after beating Village United 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller at Brancourt in Clarendon.
Meanwhile, defending champions Harbour View scored a hard-fought 3-2 victory over overall leaders Tivoli Gardens at the Harbour View Mini Stadium.
In other games, Boys’ Town, courtesy of a 90th minute strike from Joel Williams, beat Waterhouse 1-0 at Drewsland Stadium; Humble Lion defeated Benfica 1-0 at Drax Hall in St Ann and last place St Georges blanked Reno 2-0 at Lynch Park in Portland.
