Portmore, Sporting to contest second round final
Former champions Portmore United and Sporting Central Academy will contest the end-of-second round final of the 2010-2011 Digicel Premier League.
The final will take place this Sunday at a venue to be decided.
Portmore United booked their place after Arnett Gardens, who went into yesterday’s final round of matches in joint second place, were beaten 1-0 by Humble Lion in an early game at Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon.
And following that encounter, Portmore United battled to an away 1-1 draw with Waterhouse at Drewsland Stadium.
Ricardo Cousins gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute, but Jermaine Anderson equalised for Waterhouse in the 67th minute. Pormore United finished with 10 men following the ejection of defender Adrian Reid in the 13th minute.
Sporting Central Academy join Portmore United in the final after securing an away goalless draw against defending champions Harbour View at the Harbour View Mini Stadium. Portmore United finished the second round with 21 points, two ahead of Sporting Central Academy on 19 points.
Meanwhile, Craig Foster scored a first half goal to lead Reno to a 1-0 victory over 10-man Tivoli Gardens at Frome Complex in Westmoreland.
However, Tivoli Gardens remain the overall leader but by goal difference as Portmore United have joined them on 38 points.
In other games, overall third place team Boys’ Town and Benfica played to a 1-1 draw at Collie Smith Drive, St George’s beat Village United 1-0 at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.
