Jamaica and West Indies opener Chris Gayle fails to inspire Western Australia as his side lost by 46 runs to Kieron Pollard’s South Australia in the eighth match of the Big Bash 20/20 at the WACA in Australia last night.

Western Australia lost Gayle for six in the first over of its chase and was never in the hunt, limping to 156 for 9 chasing a victory target of 203.

Marcus North 48 and Shaun Marsh 24 made most runs for Western Australia against the bowling of West Indies all rounder Pollard two for 26, Aaron O’Brien 2 for 20 and Nathan Lyons 2 for 45.

Pollard also came good with the bat, smashing a blistering 55 from 26 balls to lead South Australia to 202 for 8 of their allotted 20 overs. Opener Daniel Harris scored an attacking 70 from 37 balls and Michael Klinger got 35.

Gayle bowled four overs which costs 34 runs, while Brett Dorey picked up 3 for 33 off his four overs.

South Australia's second win from three games lifted them to joint top of the table with Tasmania, while Western Australia’s are in danger after suffering their second defeat.
