EU banana import tariff

The European Union and Latin American nations are said to have narrowed their differences on a new banana import tariff in Europe, even as Caribbean governments protest their exclusion from the negotiations.

Regional heads have criticised the decision to omit the Caribbean from these talks.

They fear that the results could be devastating for the islands\' economic interests.

In a statement at the end of their summit, the leaders said the EU decision could severely affect the industry.

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has consistently ruled against the EU banana regime.
