West Indies handed co-hosts Bangladesh a crushing nine-wicket defeat after bundling them out for 58 inside 19 overs in their World Cup Group-B match in Mirpur today.
Left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn picked up four wickets while pace duo Kemar Roach and Darren Sammy claimed three victims each to skittle out the hosts for the lowest total ever by a Full Member nation in World Cup history.
Junaid Siddique 25 and Mohammad Ashraful 11 were the only Tigers batsmen to make double-figures.
Chris Gayle then blasted 37 off 36 balls to overhaul the score as West Indies finished off the match in just under two-and-a-half hours for the loss of opener Devon Smith.
The Caribbean side ended on 59 for one off 12.2 overs with Darren Bravo, the other not out batsman on nine.
The result makes it two successive victories for the West Indies following their opening game loss to South Africa, giving them momentum ahead of upcoming games against Ireland and England.
The defeat is a crushing blow to co-hosts Bangladesh, who would have seen this game as a clear opportunity to muscle their way into a possible quarterfinal spot and now face what could be a crucial match with England on March 11.
