Jamaica maintains lead going into sixth round

Three-time defending champions Jamaica will enter the sixth round of the Regional Four-Day Championship with a two-point lead despite losing first innings points to Combined Campuses and Colleges in their fifth round game yesterday at Chedwin Park in St Catherine.



Wavell Hinds and Chadwick Walton hit half centuries but Jamaica fell short by 13 runs.



Hinds, a former West Indies left-hander, scored 74 while Walton, who has also played two Tests, got 51 but Jamaica were dismissed for 341, just short of Combined Campuses and Colleges’ first innings of 353.



The Jamaicans had resumed the final day on 133 for three.



Combined Campuses and Colleges were inspired by seamer Kevin McClean who finished with an impressive haul five for 79 and off-spinner Ryan Austin who claimed three for 53.



Jamaica earned three points from the game to move to 39 points, two ahead of second place Trinidad and Tobago going into the sixth round.



Over at Queen’s Park Oval, Leeward Islands beat hosts Trinidad and Tobago by 29 runs.



Over at the Guyana National Stadium, the rain-affected match between England Lions and Guyana ended in a draw.



The game between hosts Barbados and Windward Islands at Kensington Oval also ended in a draw.
