Jamaican face Bahamian in ITF championships
Jamaican Roland Phillips will face Christian Cargill of the Bahamas in today’s Boys’ Under-14 singles final of the International Tennis Federation’s Junior Championships at the University of the West Indies (UWI).
The match is scheduled to serve off at 9 a.m. in the morning.
Phillips secured his place in the final by defeating Adrian De Silva of Trinidad and Tobago 6-1, 7-6 in yesterday’s semi-finals.
In the other semi-final Cargill whipped Jamaica’s Daniel Harris 6-2, 6-2.
It will be an all-Jamaican final in the Girls’ Under-14 section. Sheleta Haughton and Michael-Ann Denton will face off.
Haughton qualified after defeating Melena Lopez of Barbados 6-4, 6-4 in the first semi-final, while Denton got by compatriot Thadria Kepple 6-3, 7-6.
In the Boys’ Under-18 section, Jamaican Brandon Burke cemented his place in the quarterfinals following a 6-2, 7-5 victory over American Zach Jiganti.
