Former PM swore in
Former Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr. Keith Mitchell was yesterday sworn in as the country’s opposition leader.
His New National Party (NNP) lost the reins of power to Tillman Thomas’ National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC captured 11 of the 15 parliamentary seats in last Tuesday’s general elections.
Mr. Mitchell’s party, which picked up the remaining four seats in parliament, won 48 percent of the total votes cast to the NDC 52 percent.
Last week’s elections reportedly brought an end to a tense campaign that featured confrontations between the supporters of both parties.
Mitchell will lead a four-member opposition, which includes former tourism minister Dr. Clarice Modeste, former sports minister Roland Bolah and former attorney general Elvin Nimrod.
The Opposition Leader is expected to name his shadow cabinet within a week.
