Jamaica’s boys’ team pulled off an upset 3-2 victory over the Cayman Islands on yesterday’s opening day of the Caribbean Junior Squash Championships in Hamilton, Bermuda.

The Jamaican boys, ranked at Number 6, beat the third-ranked Caymanians, after couple of their players reversed the result in the singles competitions.

Joshua Mahfood was one of them and he toppled Nick Cameron 8-10, 9-5, 9-3, 9-3 to take the Under-15 tie. Then Bruce Burrowes prevailed over Jake Kelly 8-9, 7-9, 9-8, 9-2, 9-7.

The Jamaicans clinched the tie through Mahfood’s younger brother Jake, who won his Under 13 match against Iain McCallum in straight sets 9-0, 9-3, 9-0.

Later in the day, the Jamaican boys were crushed 5-0 by Guyana.

The Jamaican girls also got off to a good start, defeating Cayman Islands 3-2.
