IPL apologises to MVP athletes

Major Desmond Brown, general manager of Independence Park Limited, says the incident this morning, which led to 14 world-class MVP athletes being barred from entering the Stadium East training facility for training, was embarrassing.



World and Olympic champions Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, former world record holder Asafa Powell, Brigitte Foster-Hylton and World and Olympic 400-metre hurdles champion Melaine Walker were among the MVP athletes who were denied entry to the facility.



However, Major Brown said it was a miscommunication between his office and the security guards on duty, which led to the athletes being locked out.



Major Brown said the security guards were instructed to allow the athletes to use the facility although the venue was scheduled to host an athletic meet.



The MVP athletes were told by security guards that they were not allowed to use the facility because the venue will be hosting an athletic meet.



However, Major Brown said the time that the athletes were scheduled to use the facility would not have interfered with the meet.



He said he has since offered a letter of apology to the MVP camp.
