US President Barack Obama has begun touring storm-ravaged communities in Alabama in the aftermath of devastating storms.

At least 297 people are known to have died from the tornadoes.

Two hundred and ten of those deaths were in Alabama.

A state of emergency has since been declared in seven states including Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia and Virginia.

The President has already pledged government support for storm-hit communities, with federal aid money being sent to Alabama.
