Jamaica wins CISC championships
John Eyre, President of the Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) believes the gold medal won by the Water Polo team was the top performance at the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships, which ended last night at the National Stadium Pool.
The gold medal was won by the 18 years and over male team on the final day following a close 6-4 victory over Trinidad and Tobago.
The country finished second to Trinidad and Tobago in the Water Polo section on its way to win the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships for the first time.
Jamaica, which entered the final day in second place, gathered 1048-and-a-half point to win ahead of Trinidad and Tobago. The Trinidadians ended on 981 points, followed by Aruba in third with 884-and-a-half, Dominican Republic in fourth with 770 and Puerto Rico in fifth place with 748.
During the final night of competition in swimming, Jamaica mined six medals including one gold, three silver and two bronze.
Eyre said the victory shows that the country has good depth in all three disciplines, swimming, synchronised swimming and water polo.
