Barbados recovering from recession, says IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says Barbados has begun to recover from the impact of the global economic crisis.

Therese Turner-Jones, who led a mission to the island last week, said the country began to recover in early 2011.

She says Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is projected to grow by about two percent this year, due mainly to increased tourist arrivals.

The IMF official says discussions with Barbadian authorities have centred on strategies to maintain fiscal and debt sustainability by placing debt on a declining path over the medium term.
