World 100-metre champion Tyson Gay of the USA has pulled out of his showdown with Jamaica’s former world record-holder Asafa Powell at Crystal Palace in London because of a hamstring injury.
The race, which is due to be held tomorrow, was set to be one of the highlights at the London Grand Prix.
Gay has decided not to risk the injury before the 100-metre heats begin at the Olympics on Friday, August 12.
Gay is undergoing treatment for the injury in Germany but is expected to be ready to compete in Beijing.
The meeting in London will also feature Jamaican 100-metre world record holder Usain Bolt, who is scheduled to run in the 200 metres.
