St Kitts PM rejects calls for foreign commissioner

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr. Denzil Douglas has criticised the private sector and other organisations for publicly calling for a foreigner to head the police service.



According to the prime minister, that is another instance of poor judgment on the part of these organisations.



The current commissioner Austin Williams, who was appointed in 2008 and has passed the stipulated Civil Service retirement age.



The authorities have already placed advertisements in the media seeking a replacement.



Last week, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce called for the appointment of a foreign Commissioner of Police, and a new permanent secretary in the Ministry of National Security.
