Israeli military fire tear gas, warning shots at Syrian protesters

The Israeli military says troops have fired tear gas and warning shots as protesters attempt to cross the heavily fortified border between Syria and the Golan Heights.

Syrian television has said 20 protesters have been killed and 325 wounded in the protests, which mark the anniversary of the 1967 Six-Day War. The Israel Defense Forces have not confirmed the casualties.

However, the CNN is reporting that a spokesman said despite numerous warnings, dozens of protesters continued to approach Israel's border.

A statement from the Defence Forces say troops were left with no choice but to open fire towards the ground in an effort to deter further actions.
