A Board of Inquiry has been established to investigate how four inmates escaped from the New Amsterdam Prison in Guyana yesterday.

A statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs said that the three-member Board will probe how the inmates breached security mechanisms at the facility and made escaped around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Preliminary reports indicate that the men, who are facing charges of robbery and murder, broke their way out of the prison by cutting the floor board.

The ministry says a joint service response has been coordinated to pursue and recapture the escapees who are considered to be dangerous.
