The Dominica government is reiterating its position not to support the use of scarce funds to introduce voter identification cards for its citizens.
However, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said his administration is prepared to pay the over US$1 million for national identification cards.
He said the cards could also serve as a voter ID card.
The main opposition United Workers Party has been calling on the government to introduce the voter ID card as a means of ensuring free and fair elections.
Prime Minister Skerrit said there will be no problem with a national ID card which can be used for other purposes.
However, Skerrit is adamant that the country will not spend millions of dollars for the card to be used for a single purpose.
