Boy kills schoolgirl

A Suriname community is in shock after a 12 year old boy stabbed and killed a nine year old schoolgirl in front of her classmates.
The incident reportedly took place in the rural village of Nickerie, which is more than 200 kilometres west of the capital, Paramaribo.
The police said the 12 year old boy then tried to stab himself in the stomach and was taken to a hospital where he remains in stable condition.
He has not been charged.
Investigators report that the boy had recently been expelled for persistent violence against other students.
