Campbell-Brown wins sprint double

Two-time Olympic 200-metre champion Veronica Campbell-Brown completed the sprint double at the Jamaican National Senior Championships last night at the National Stadium with a comfortable victory in the women’s 200-metre final.



Campbell-Brown stormed home in 22.44 seconds, well clear of second place Kerron Stewart, who she defeated to win the 100-metre crown on Friday night.



Stewart clocked 22.63, while Sherone Simpson finished third in 22.73 to collect the final automatic slot for the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.



Campbell-Brown was very happy for the victory.



In the men’s 200 metres, Steve Mullings outclassed the field to win in 20.

11 seconds. Nickel Ashmeade finished second in 20.32, while Mario Forsythe took third in 20.36.



The final day produced a big shock as national record holder Jermaine Gonzales finished a disappointing fourth in 45.59. Riker Hylton won the event in 45.30 from Leford Green, 45.46 and Lansford Spence, 45.46.



However, Gonzales is expected to make the team for the World Championships, as Green will not run the flat 400 in Daegu.



Novlene Williams-Mills won the women’s race in 50.05. Rosemarie Whyte finished second in 50.40 and Shericka Williams was third in 50.81.



Andrew Riley, 13.36 seconds beat national record holder Dwight Thomas, 13.38 in the men’s 110-metre hurdles, while Indira Spence won the women’s 100-metre hurdles in 13.08 seconds.
