Powell wins 100 metres in Grand Prix
There were five victories for Jamaica at yesterday’s Herculis Monaco Grand Prix.
Former world record holder Asafa Powell led the way with a comfortable win in the men’s 100 metres.
The 25 year old eased to victory in a season-best 9.82 seconds ahead of Davis Patton of the United States, 9.98 and Nesta Carter of Jamaica in 10.02.
Powell is one of the hot favourites to win gold at the Beijing Olympics, which begins on August 8.
National champion Kerron Stewart clocked 10.94 seconds to win the women’s 100 metres ahead of compatriot Sherone Simpson, who recorded 10.95. The Jamaicans finished ahead of American Torri Edwards, 11.02.
Brigitte Foster-Hylton won the women’s 100-metre hurdles in a season-best 12.49, while Melanie Walker took the women’s 400-metre hurdles in a personal best 53.48. Danny McFarlane clocked 48.39 to win the men’s 400-metre hurdles.
