Dacres launches Jamaica’s medal hunt at Youth Championships

The International Association of Athletics Federations World Youth Championships in Lille, France begins today with 12 Jamaicans in action on the opening day.



Jamaica will start their medal hunt immediately as national junior record holder Federick Dacres is down to contest the discus final at 11.45 am Jamaica time.



Dacres, who is the only 16 or 17-year-old in the world to have thrown over 65 metres ¬ with a best of 66.42 metres ¬ is the overwhelming favourite to take the event.



Other Jamaicans in action today are Lennox Williams, who will feature in the 400-metre heats at 9.35 am, Christania Williams and Dianna Johnson, who compete in the heats of the 100 metres at 10.35 and Omar McLeod, who is down to contest the 400-metre hurdles heats at 12.30 pm.
