Francis says netball programme should be revamped

Former coach of the Sunshine Girls, Connie Francis said the entire netball programme should be revamped following the team’s fourth place at the recently concluded World Netball Championships in Singapore.



After targeting a historic gold medal, the Sunshine Girls crashed to a humiliating 82-46 defeat against Australia in the semi-finals.



In the playoff for the bronze medal, the Sunshine Girls were beaten 70-49 by England.



Francis also criticized team captain Nadine Bryan, saying that she looked very ordinary as the defensive unit was weak.



The former coach also said a few of the players need to go because they have done their time.



Francis was replaced as head coach a few weeks before the World Championships.



Former national player Oberon Pitterson was then selected as head coach by a selection committee, led by Australian Jill McIntosh.



McIntosh was employed as technical director by the Jamaica Netball Association five months prior to the start of the competition.



She made several changes to the programme, including a stipulation for coaches and captain to submit resumes for positions.
