The Guyanese opposition coalition, a Partnership for National Unity (APNU), was officially launched last day night with a promise of new politics in Guyana.

The coalition which also includes the main opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), is expected to contest the general and presidential elections scheduled for later this year.

Co-leader of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine said that APNU was not dreamed up by politicians sitting at a table but had been fermenting since at least 2002.

Roopnaraine said that when elected the party will immediately move to establish a government of national unity.
