A senior Barbados government minister has called for equal opportunities for persons living with the deadly HIV/AIDS virus.

Yesterday Family Minister Stephen Lashley, told parliamentarians they had a duty as representatives of the people to address the needs of all of their constituents, including those living with HIV or AIDS.

He said they must help to end discrimination by setting a positive example, and by speaking openly and honestly about the illness.

However, Lashley said Barbados continues to demonstrate strong political and civil society leadership in its response to the pandemic.
