Rain stop England's progress in cricket

Hosts England, sent in to bat, were 127 for two on the first day of the historic 2000th Test against India at Lord’s before light rain ended the afternoon session.

Star bowler Zaheer Khan has taken both wickets to fall. But India suffered a potentially crushing blow as Zaheer left the pitch midway through his 14th over, nursing an apparent hamstring strain.

Zaheer removed both England openers but Jonathan Trott survived two chances to reach 58 not out alongside Kevin Pietersen, who looked out of touch despite reaching 22 not out by the interval.

Alastair Cook was dismissed for 12 with the score on 19, while captain Andrew Strauss went for 22 with the score on 62.
