Minister with responsibility for information, telecommunications and special projects, Daryl Vaz, told journalists yesterday that the operators of REDjet, Air One Venture Ltd, was granted a license after satisfying the regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

“The company re-applied for a licence in April 2011 as an airline with Barbadian designation under the Association of Caribbean States Multilateral Air Services Agreement,” Vaz said.

He continued:

“The report further informed that following the resolution of issues regarding the safety sustainability and ownership of REDjet, the decision was taken by the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority to grant the airline the license to operate in Jamaica.”

The report noted by Cabinet was from a meeting of Ministers of Transport from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados - three of the countries where REDjet intends to operate.

The company first applied for a license in Jamaica in 2007.
