Imani Wilmot, Jensen Callaway win Makka Pro

The Jamaica Surfing Association will embark on a youth development programme in an effort to increase the local surfing population.
President of the Jamaica Surfing Association, Billy Wilmot, said the youth development programme could come on stream in another few months.
Meanwhile, Imani Wilmot led home a one-two finish for Jamaica in the female category of the Makka Pro International Surfing Championships, which ended at the Southaven Beach in Yallahs, St Thomas yesterday.
Wilmot tallied 10.67 points to become the first Jamaican female to win that category in the Makka Pro Championships. Second place Danielle Orayon tallied 9.44 and American Leslie Dickerson was third with a score of seven.
Last season’s champion, Chelsea Tauch of Barbados was absent.
American Jensen Callaway, who compiled a score of 14.63, won the men’s open title. Callaway finished ahead of his teammate Jeremy Johnston, while Barbadian Josh Burke finished in third place.
Jamaican Icah Wilmot who won the title last year faded into fourth place with nine points.
In the junior section, Shane Simmonds of Jamaica was third with 10.80. The other Jamaican, Ackeem Phillips finished fourth with 11.10. Barbadian Jordan Heaselgra, who tallied 11.67, won that section ahead of his teammate Josh Burke.
