England beat India to take number 1 spot in the world
England knocked India off the top of the world Test rankings with a crushing innings and 242 run victory in the third Test at Edgbaston today.
England's victory gives them an unassailable 3-nil lead in the series and provides emphatic confirmation of their new status as the best team in the world.
India, who resumed this morning on 35 for one, 451 behind were bowled out for 244 runs.
James Anderson set England on the victory trail by removing Gautam Gambhir for 14, Rahul Dravid for 18 and VVS Laxman for two inside the first hour in a brilliant spell of swing bowling.
MS Dhoni topscored for India with 74 not out, while Sachin Tendulkar and Praveen Kumar scored 40 runs each.
