O’Dayne Richards wins gold for Jamaica

O’Dayne Richards won Jamaica’s first medal at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China by taking the gold in the men’s shot put on today’s first day of track and field.



Richards, a student at University of Technology, won with a personal-best throw of 19.83 metres.



The silver medal went to Russian Soslan Tsyrikhov with a throw of 19.80 metres, while American Mason Finley took the bronze medal with a throw of 19.72 metres.



Meanwhile, Jacques Harvey and Carrie Russell qualified for the next round of the 100 metres.



Harvey clocked 10.67 for second in the men’s 100 metres won by Wilfred Koffi, in a time of 10.42 seconds.



Russell advanced after winning Heat 3 of the women’s 100 metres in 11.41 metres
