Jamaica wins another silver at World University Games

Pete Matthews picked up a fourth medal for Jamaica as he won silver in the men’s 400 metres on today’s third day of track and field at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China.
Matthews clocked a lifetime best 45.62 for second place, behind gold medal winner Marcell Deak Nagy of Hungary, who won in 45.50. Australian Sean Wroe took the bronze medal in 45.93.
Jamaica have now secured three gold and a silver. Jacques Harvey and Carrie Russell won the 100-metre gold medals on day two, while O’Dayne won the men’s shot put gold on the opening day.
Meanwhile, Jason Young, Rasheed Dwyer, Anneisha McLaughlin and Anastasia Leroy have qualified for the semi-finals of the 200 metres following two rounds.
Young won Heat 3 of the men’s 200 metres in 20.88 to advance with the second fastest qualifying time; while Dwyer took Heat 4 in 21 seconds flat.
In the women’s 200 metres, McLaughlin qualified with the second fastest time after winning Heat 1 in 23.52 seconds; while Leroy was second in Heat 3 in 23.56.
