Athletics: Dwyer, McLaughlin win gold for Jamaica

Jamaica secured another two gold medals at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China as Rasheed Dwyer and Anneisha McLaughlin won the 200-metre finals on today’s fourth day of track and field.



Dwyer clocked a lifetime best of 20.20 seconds to win the men’s 200-metre final, while his countryman Jason Young and South African Thuso Mpuang were awarded a silver medal each. Young and Mpuang deadheated for second in 20.59.



McLaughlin also clocked a lifetime best for her gold medal. She did 22.54 to win the women’s 200 metres, while her teammate Anastasia Leroy finished fifth in 23.32.



Meanwhile, Jamaican Indira Spence, who qualified for the women’s 100-metre hurdles, did not finish the race. Sifaatihii Ali-Nia of the USA won the gold medal in 12.85.



Jamaica have now won seven medals including five gold and two silver.
