Football: Jamaica crush Aruba 9-nil

Jamaica crushed Aruba 9-nil yesterday in their opening match of the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championships in the Dominican Republic.



Shantell Thompson and Shadie Shirley led the Jamaicans with three goals each, while Nicole Broderick supported with a double strike.



As a result of the victory, Jamaica have taken the early lead in the three-team Group B qualifiers.



Jamaica will play their final match against hosts Dominica Republic Sunday.



This stage of qualifiers consists of four, three-team Caribbean groups.



The four group winners will advance to a second group stage from which three will qualify for the eight-team CONCACAF finals next year.



CONCACAF will send three teams to the Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan set for September 12 to October 13, 2012.
