England beat Wales 1-0
Hosts England beat Wales 1-0 with a first half goal from Ashley Young at a rainy and damp Wembley Stadium today, to move within a point of qualifying for next year's Euro 2012 finals in Ukraine and Poland.
Young scored after 35 minutes after receiving a low cross from Stewart Downing.
The result took England to 17 points from seven matches in Group G, six clear of Montenegro who have 11 from six.
England's final qualifier is in Montenegro on October 7 and if England avoid defeat they will win the group and qualify automatically for the finals.
Meanwhile, Italy and Spain secured their qualification with victories.
Italy left it late to see off Slovenia 1-0, second-half substitute Giampaolo Pazzini scoring five minutes from time to hand the Azzurri all three points in Florence.
The victory leaves Italy unbeaten in Group C and eight points clear of nearest rivals Serbia, who beat the Faroe Islands 3-1.
Spain whipped Liechtenstein 6-0 to seal top spot in Group I, moving eight points clear of the Czech Republic with just two games remaining
